WillPlay is thrilled to showcase the fantastic new play facilities at Bundaberg West State School, a project we managed from the initial design concept right through to the final installation. The school's vision was to create a comprehensive recreational hub with distinct zones catering to different age groups and play styles. The result is two amazing new areas, each with its own unique character and purpose.
The main play area is a vibrant hub designed for imaginative adventures and collaborative fun. Featuring a large bespoke climbing system and our popular Boxie Climb unit. This space is all about encouraging social interaction, problem-solving and creative play, all protected under a large shade structure.
The thoughtfully designed Bespoke System is the centrepiece, featuring beautiful timber-look battens that give it a natural aesthetic. It offers a multi-level experience with challenging climbing nets, a central wormhole climber for a twisting ascent and a thrilling tube slide for a speedy return to the ground.
Alongside it, the double Boxie Climb System provides endless physical and mental challenges. With climbing options on all sides, including nets, a knot climb, a ladder and plastic climbing walls, children can choose their own path. The unit is cleverly designed with a central wormhole climber on one side, a rope balance on the other and monkey bars separating the two towers, promoting continuous play and friendly competition.

A short walk away from the main playground at Bundaberg West State School, a completely different challenge awaits. The Urban Warrior Area is a dynamic obstacle course designed to test students' agility, strength and coordination, providing an exciting and active outlet for older children.
Designed to get hearts pumping and build physical confidence, the Urban Warrior Area offers a series of challenging obstacles that encourage students to push their limits in a safe and fun environment.
The course begins with the Quintuple Steps, a classic challenge that requires balance, coordination and focus as students leap from one angled platform to the next. This element is fantastic for developing lower-body strength and proprioceptive skills.
Next, users face the Horizontal Cargo Net, a tough obstacle that tests total body strength. Students must use their arms, legs and core to traverse the net, making it an excellent all-round physical conditioning tool.
The final challenge is the Monkey Crossing, a combination of classic monkey bars leading into an overhead net climber. This requires significant upper body strength and endurance, providing a thrilling and rewarding experience for students as they make their way across to the finish line.
The two new play spaces at Bundaberg West State School work together perfectly to create a balanced and engaging recreational offering for the entire student body. From the imaginative and social play of the main area to the physical tests of the Urban Warrior course, students now have a diverse range of activities to explore during their break times. WillPlay was proud to deliver this project as a complete, start-to-finish solution, managing all site works, the playground and shade installation, and ensuring a seamless process for the school.
