Teelba State School, a small regional school located five hours inland from Brisbane, now boasts an incredible new custom-built playground, fully designed, manufactured and installed by our team at WillPlay. Using a funding grant, the school engaged us to transform their play area into a landmark space tailored specifically to their students.

The concept came directly from the students, weaving Teelba's unique regional identity into a playground where children can explore, challenge themselves and see their own community reflected around them. When Teelba State School approached us with a clear vision to reflect their local environment, we worked side-by-side with them through multiple drafts, tweaking the concepts until everyone was thrilled with the final result. Because Teelba is a regional community where trucks are a daily, familiar sight, incorporating them into the design allowed the students to directly connect with the space and bring their everyday world into imaginative play.

The centrepiece of this vibrant play space is a massive custom Truck PlayPark system modelled after a classic Australian road train. We customised this structure specifically for the school, featuring "TEELBA SS" proudly branded across the front grill and "Teelba Tires" custom-moulded into the wheel panels. Students can climb into the driver's cab, crawl through tunnels, cross elevated bridges and navigate climbing nets before choosing their quick escape down either the open side slide or the tube slide off the boxie climb. By building a bespoke Truck PlayPark featuring Teelba's name prominently across the structure, we delivered a space that belongs uniquely to their school, creating a deep sense of pride and ownership for the students and connecting their daily play directly with their regional identity.

Right beside the truck sits our custom 'Servo' Play Fort, the ultimate drive-thru service station companion, complete with interactive panels such as a Ball Maze, Crazy Wheel, Tic-Tac-Toe and a SERVO counter window for endless imaginative play. Nearby, young drivers can take a spin on our green and yellow Tractor Car Rocker, while those looking for hands-on, tactile fun can explore the dedicated sand play zone. Featuring a specialised Sand Play System with scoops, chains and funnels alongside an interactive Sand Digger, kids can scoop, shift and build to their hearts' content. For students wanting to build strength and agility, the play area also includes classic Monkey Bars and a Track Ride to zip across the sand.

The new play space has completely transformed break times for students of all ages. "Our students are beside themselves with excitement. They don't play with anything else—they all head straight to the new playground. The big kids love the big slide and the net, and they love the imaginative play aspect as well. They're so happy," says Teelba's principal. "The playground also needed to be challenging for both younger and older kids. As a result, it has broadened their play during lunchtimes and has enabled them to practise challenging skills, like monkey bars. The games they are coming up with are amazing. It has truly changed our play times, for the better."

In south-west Queensland, playground equipment needs to handle hot summers, intense sun and periods of heavy rainfall. We design all our equipment to handle both the harsh Australian climate and non-stop use from energetic kids every single day. Because school play areas take a real beating during recess and lunch, every component uses heavy-duty, commercial-grade materials built for high-traffic longevity. Our comprehensive warranty backs this up, giving schools complete confidence that their asset is protected for the long haul.

To ensure Teelba State School received a complete, hassle-free solution, our installation team handled every step of the site transformation from the ground up. We installed a massive 10.2m x 20.4m hard shade shelter featuring a green steel profile roof, providing total all-weather cover so students can play safely protected from the sun. The full scope of work covered site excavation, subsurface drainage to manage heavy rain, heavy-duty timber edging around the perimeter and certified sand softfall with flush rubber pads placed at slide exit points for extra safety. Our team also laid fresh turf around the timber borders, managed temporary fencing during construction, completed underground service scans and secured full third-party safety certification.

The result is a long-term community investment that has delighted staff, parents and students alike. As Teelba's principal shared, "The whole process of working with WillPlay was very smooth. They were more than happy to make adjustments and really listened to what we wanted. They were also a breeze to work with on site. Everyone is absolutely loving the new playground. The kids are loving playing on it and the feedback from parents has been fantastic. We have also had a great response on social media. I'm excited to see it used for generations to come. It's a very well-built playground and it will be part of the school and community for a long time."
