West End State School
As one of South East Queensland’s fastest-growing schools, West End State School is also one of the oldest. A vibrant heart of the community, the school recently celebrated its 150th anniversary and what better way to mark the milestone than to open a brand new play area by WillPlay.
Funded in conjunction with the school’s P&C and designed in close collaboration with the school community, this project reflects WillPlay’s commitment to creating play spaces that enhance learning, social development and daily movement. Built within a compact footprint suited to an inner-city campus, the installation delivers a vibrant, durable and highly engaging environment that supports both structured and imaginative play.
The focal point of the upgrade is the impressive custom Bespoke System, featuring a striking leaf-canopy roof, timber-look battens and a tube slide. Alongside the Bespoke system is the versatile reduced height Boxie Climb System and a Custom PlayPark System, giving students endless options to scale, balance and explore. From sprawling rope net climbers to entry-level slides, children of all ages can test their agility and build physical confidence safely.
Ground-level play is packed with imaginative and sensory experiences. Young learners can run their own transit hub at the Little Town Train Station, complete with a ticket counter, an abacus and a clock, or engage in roleplay at the Store Panel. Interactive elements like the Ball Maze, X & O and Chimes Panels encourage musical exploration and strategic problem-solving. For physical agility, bright colourful Warrior Step Pods and a Warrior Balance beam challenge students' balance.
Built to withstand the demands of a high-density school environment, the playground highlights WillPlay’s signature Australian-made construction. Utilising marine-grade aluminium, timber-look posts, timber composite slats and UV-stable HDPE, the equipment delivers long-term lifecycle value and reduced maintenance, ensuring the space remains safe, robust and visually striking for years to come.
Beyond the equipment itself, West End State School’s new playground enriches students' daily lives while reinforcing the school’s dedication to wellbeing, outdoor learning and community pride.
